Biltong in Table View “Rip Off!”

    Hey guys check this out……
Before you just ‘pop in’ quick fir a piece of biltong to nibble -Don’t be caught as a fool.

Grabbed a quick piece in rushing past before realising it was about size of an open hand and only R20 change from R200!

Long story short I waited till clients vacated and asked the big guy what the R/kg was – “R400!” per kilo

    Said I’d made biltong
(all use topside or silverside) – all and been buying for years ……
wasn’t that a little on the heavy side?

    Best explication I’ve heard in 50y =

    “People pay that for it!”

Wish I had of thought of that….but then I have some education and 30 years in sales and marketing. ….all those courses didn’t ever mention that clever line….

I chose Not to be on the Stupid team this day and returned the highly sought after -most rare and exclusive piece of Namibian beef, realising I just wasn’t wealthy, stupid, & naive enough to accept that this 400gram meat was the last they could find in all Namibia – thinking I’d better find stock before the beef famine in Windhoek or he may raise it to R500/kg….or God forbid R600/kg!

I’d have to sacrifice dstv for a month soon if I wanted a hand sized priced and hung meat piece.

You gotta say it’s not exactly labour intensive or need a PhD to spice and hang a piece of meat in pre warmed container and let nature do its work for 4 days….but then again the incredible talent kinda showed in that awesome sakes pitch –

    “People pay that! ”

Biltong at Park lands popular shopping centre R400/kg

A biltong shop in big shopping centre (which has far tastier recipe at huge rental) R320/kg

And popular long term butchery R259/kg -great cuts.

To add insult to injury – the last piece bought there – of the “Delux” R400/kg was riddled with sinew that left that last edge looking like something between a teething baby soggy blue left overs and an animal afterbirth.

    Sorry guys –
just sharing in case you get an early bonus or have just sold a kidney and wanna lighten your wallet.

And by the way Mr biltong man…..your tills set a little heavy as supermarket veggies scale and yours both showed 438 grams @ R180…….that’s
    R411/kg……you charged me!

They have the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. So rude and arrogant, I will never support this business. They presumed I was a student and told me to leave when I asked them about their chilli biltong. Personally I work full time and find their attitude was disgusting and discriminatory. I wish them no success in the future due to the fact that their owner who told me to personally “get lost” because he perceived me to be “poor”. #namaqualandbiltongmustfall
